The "City Base" Strategy Staying in Niseko costs $500/night. Staying in Sapporo costs $60. The trade-off? A 60-minute bus ride. For many, that math works perfectly. The Criteria: We looked for hotels that are: 1. Near Sapporo Station (for the train/bus). 2. Have a Sentō/Onsen (for recovery). 3. Have a Ski Locker or allow gear in rooms.
--- 1. JR Inn Sapporo South Location: 7 mins walk from JR Sapporo. The Perk: They have a massive public bath in the basement. The breakfast buffet features Hokkaido dairy and seafood. Price:: ~$70 USD. 2. Dormy Inn Sapporo Annex Location: Tanukikoji (near the nightlife/food). The Perk: Free Ramen ("Yonaki Soba") served every night at 9:30 PM. The Onsen is legitimate natural hot spring water. Price:: ~$80 USD. 3.
Nest Hotel Sapporo Ekimae Location: 5 mins from the station. The Perk: Very cheap. Basic, clean, no-frills. Perfect if you just need a bed and a shower. Price:: ~$50 USD. --- Transport from Sapporo Station To Teine: JR Train to Teine Station + Bus (Total 45 mins). To Kokusai: Direct Bus from Sapporo Station Bus Terminal (90 mins). To Rusutsu:: Direct "Rusutsu Go" Bus (90 mins - Book ahead!). Stay near Sapporo Station, not Susukino, if your priority is skiing. The morning walk to the bus terminal from Susukino in ski boots is painful.
